End of the Beginning

Today is yesterday
It’s all the same in a brand new frame
And so I called you up to bring you down
But you don’t come around any more

It’s the end of the beginning
   the loss I feel when winning
The frown that stops the grinning
   though I’m doing fine
I’m graceful till I stumble
   like a building built to crumble
It’s pride that keeps me humble
   as sure as I kiss the ground

I’m here and now I’m there
It’s hard to care and bear my tears
A mirror is not a work of art it’s got no heart
No matter how clear it shows your fears

It’s the end of the beginning
   the loss I feel when winning
The frown that stops the grinning
   though I’m doing fine
Comfort makes me worry
   I’m patient till I hurry
The eloquence is slurring
   as sure as I’m inside out

Hello, it’s time to go
I run the race to stay in place
And throw my anchor down
It pulls me overboard but I just can’t drown

I’m certain then I doubt it
   alone then over-crowded
My insides have been outed
   whenever I make a sound
The whispers all are shouted
   I know I’m going down
The clarity is clouded
   I’m flying as I hit the ground
